Travel & Lodging:

The nearest airport is Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (airport code: BZN). It is about 15 minutes from Bozeman.

We have reserved blocks of rooms at the C'Mon Inn (top left) and the Western Heritage Inn (bottom right). The C'Mon Inn is very nice, but further from the festivities and downtown Bozeman. The Western Heritage Inn is walking distance from downtown and a mile from our house. For either, mention our last names to reserve from the block of rooms. There are many other options in both Livingston and Bozeman as well from national forest campgrounds to bed & breakfasts to vacation rentals. Let us know if you have questions.

Short Hikes:

Ask us for directions, maps, etc.
Drinking Horse Trail - Very short, climbs a small hill over looking town.
The M Trail - Numerous routes, varying in length and steepness. Popular and well-marked. Good views of town.
Sypes Canyon - Also very popular. It's about two miles to a nice scenic overlook, but the trail keeps
going all the way to the ridgeline of the Bridgers.
Triple Tree - A lollipop loop south of town, a little quieter than the three above. Maybe five miles round
trip, good views from the top.

Storm Castle - Located in Gallatin Canyon. Short, but steep. Great views of the Gallatin and Madison ranges. Katie and Brant got engaged on the summit.
Bear Trap Canyon - This quiet, mellow trail follows the Madison River.
Brackett Creek - North of Bozeman in Bridger Canyon. Good views of the Ross Peak/Bridger Range starting about 1.5 miles in, but you can hike as far as you want. Watch out for mountain bikes.
Beehive Basin - Located in Big Sky. 3 miles (each way) to a massive alpine cirque. There may be snow in spots. Great views of Lone Peak across the valley. This is higher elevation than anything else we've listed, so you may feel the elevation if you live at sea level.

Hot Springs:

June isn't really the best time of year for Hot Springs but don't let that stop you. And if we have some cooler evening weather, then by all means, go for it.
  • The Boiling River: This is just past the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. It can bee cooler in spring time due to run off. But it's generally amazing and worth the effort.
  • Norris Hot Springs: In the bustling metropolis of Norris, MT. Funky wooden pool, nice and warm, good beer and food. Great spot for live music, which they have regularly. Have a beer at the Norris Bar - it's "real Montana".
  • Chico Hot Springs: Not our first choice on weekends. One big pool that's kinda warm, and one small one that's hot.
  • Bozeman Hot Springs: Lots of pools of varying temperature. Can get loud.

Activities and Things to Do:

  • Long Hikes - Ask Brant & Katie for ideas. There's still quite a bit of snow at high elevations.
  • Fly Fishing - They filmed "A River Runs Through It" here for a reason.
  • Yellowstone National Park - Not to be missed. You could spend a lifetime in Yellowstone and not get bored.
  • Lewis & Clark Caverns - Cool cave formations out by Three Forks.
  • Horseback Riding - Can be done down in Big Sky. Probably lots of places.
  • Whitewater Rafting - There's several rafting outfits in Gallatin Canyon.
  • Hyalite Reservoir - Hyalite is beautiful. A great spot for a picnic, or a hike, or you could rent a canoe and paddle around. Or all of the above.
  • Floating the Madison River - If you don't have time to do this with us on Saturday, then you should find time a different day. Rent an inner tube in Four Corners, grab some beers, and relax as the current takes you through a scenic canyon. It was more scenic until some idiots burned it down last summer. Seriously.
  • Museum of the Rockies - Excellent collection of dinosaur fossils.
  • Shakespeare in the Park - Free performance of Henry V at 8pm, June 19-22 at MSU.

Food & Coffee:

In Bozeman:

  • Montana Ale Works - Pretty much the standard. Great food, best beer list in town. Brant lives for the Bison Patty Melt. Dinner only.
  • Starky's - It's not Ale Works, but you won't have to wait. Good drink specials for happy hour.
  • Ted's Montana Grill - Yeah, it's a chain but they still make a mean burger.
  • Blackbird Kitchen - Put aside the fact that this place could be featured on Portlandia, and enjoy the wood-fired pizzas and local, fresh, farm-to-table entrees. If you're hungry, get an appetizer and dessert, because the portions are on the small side. Get dessert anyway, because they always have something awesome.
  • Dave's Sushi - Our pick for sushi in Bozeman. Best made, most creative rolls in town. Katie loves the Spawning Dragon. Brant loves the Tunalicious. Brant and Katie had their first date here.
  • La Parilla - The burrito place in town.
  • La Tinga - Great, authentic tacos - they shut down in the winter for a month to go back to Mexico. Lunch only. Cash only.
  • Colombo's - Solid pizza. Pan crust recommended.
  • Bridger Brewing - Solid beer, great pizza. They've only been open a few months and already have a lot of our money.
  • The Co-op - Two locations: downtown (E. Main) and not quite downtown (W. Main). Each has a solid buffet with various entrees as well as a killer salad bar. If you want to be healthy, this is where it's at. Bring your birkenstocks.
  • Main Street Over Easy - Excellent breakfast and lunch. Good coffee.
  • Stockyard Cafe - Brant's favorite breakfast. Everything is excellent, but the biscuits and gravy is all
  • time. Katie's heart beats for the cornmeal pancakes. Only open Fri-Sun. Cash only.
  • Soby's - Seriously gigantic breakfast burritos.
  • Granny's Donuts - This place is entirely odd, but the donuts rock. And who doesn't love donuts?
  • The Daily - Two locations: College & 11th and N. Rouse. Great pastries, good espresso drinks, drip coffee
  • is okay.
  • Rockford Coffee - Also two locations: Rouse & Main and 7th & Main. Excellent coffee.

Out of town but worth the drive:
  • 2nd Street Bistro - Want to take it up a notch? This is your best bet, but you have to drive to Livingston. Make reservations on a weekend.
  • Sir Scott's Oasis - A real Montana steak house in Manhattan, MT. Don't be put off by the lame salad that you will get to start your meal. This place does steak right. Make reservations on a weekend.

Drinks:

  • Bozone Brewery - If you come from somewhere that has good local breweries, you might be disappointed but it's the best we've got. Good beers: Bozone Amber, Great One Double Red (seasonal), MT Common (seasonal), Hopzone IPA. Plum St. Porter is to be avoided; we've yet to try the Nitro Stout. Tasting room is open until 8.
  • Plonk - Our classy bar. Go here for cocktails.
  • Hofbrau - It's a dive, but there's something awesome about it.
  • Crystal (Rooftop) - Brant thinks the Crystal is an acquired taste (i.e. one that he has not acquired), but Katie loves the rooftop.
  • The Murray - In Livingston. Rad.
